2017 Competition Review

Guildford Triumphs at 2017 London Organ Competition.

The second London Organ Competition for teenage organists organised by The Organ Club took place on 28 and 29 December 2017 at St. Clement Danes in the Strand.

There were six candidates in the Junior Section (ages 13-16) on Thursday 28th and the 1st Prizewinner was Daniel Baker from Harrow School. The Second prize was won by Jed Hughes from the Hochschule “Mendelssohn” Leipzig, who is resident in Gloucestershire.

On Friday 29th, ten candidates played in the Senior Section (ages 17-19) The 1st Prize was won by Nicholas Edwards of the Royal Grammar School at Guildford Joint Second Prizes were awarded to William Fielding from St. Mary’s Cathedral Edinburgh, and Sam Jones, also from RGS Guildford, a great achievement for that school.

Over the course of the two days, Club Members , Parents and other visitors enjoyed a feast of 32 organ works with a very high standard of playing from students of an average age of 17.

The 2018 Competition will take place at St Clement Danes on December 27th and 28th.
